What is different about alpaca fibre?
Because alpaca fibre, unlike wool, is naturally hollow and non greasy, it can be worn next to the skin without the "prickle" effect. It's also much warmer than wool and amazingly light - about a third the weight of wool. It combines softness with strength and comes in a wide range of more than 20 natural colours from white, a range of fawn, brown and grey shades through to black. It can also be dyed.
Do alpacas need a lot of looking after?
Alpacas are easily handled - for shearing, drenching, teeth and toenail trimming. They do not suffer from fly strike or foot rot.

Do alpacas require special fencing?
Plain wire or hinge joint is preferred but generally normal rural fencing will do.
How long do they live?
Alpacas live for 15 - 20 years and can reproduce all this time. Alpacas produce young called cria every 11.5 months, mostly during daylight hours.
How do alpacas affect the land?
Alpacas are kind to their environment, they have soft padded feet and crop the pastures with no damage to the land.
